Cancer Care through Medical Physics Training

While it may seem that expensive medical imaging equipment would be the biggest barrier to receiving cancer treatment in Kenya, such resources are ineffectual without trained medical professionals who can operate and maintain them. Currently, such training is limited in Kenya, which is why educators and healthcare staff at the Meru University of Science and Technology want to develop a graduate degree program in Medical Physics.

As a volunteer with Academics Without Borders (AWB) I am helping to facilitate conversations with academic and clinical staff around the needs being addressed within the healthcare system both at larger centres and in more remote areas within the country. We are working collaboratively to create an optimal student learning experience to educate African students with the skills and motivation to support patients and the broader healthcare team.
